Representative Scribner serves as guest speaker for cardiology support organization
On Tuesday, April 7, State Rep. David Scribner (R-Brookfield, Bethel) served as guest speaker at a breakfast benefit for the Brookfield-based ‘Hearts Around The World’ organization. The event took place at the Ethan Allen Inn in Danbury.
The organization was founded by local cardiologist Robert Jarrett, M.D. Members outlined current projects and future goals during the event, including plans to send a team of pediatric cardiologists and surgeons to help save the lives of children with congenital heart disease in Saigon, Vietnam in July 2009.
A long-time teacher and mentor for cardiologists overseas, Jarrett has sought ways to cut overhead costs in order to provide doctors with the very best medical training. The organization supports medical and cardiovascular training programs in third world and emerging nations through hands-on education and demonstrations. It provides physicians and staff of local hospitals with modern medical information and techniques required to care for all patients in need.
Rep. Scribner, a long-time member of the Legislature’s Public Health Committee, praised the efforts of the organization and founders Jarrett and his wife, Menoo Afkari-Jarrett.
“It was inspiring to speak to Hearts Around The World and its local supporters,” said Rep. Scribner. “The Jarretts and other area medical professionals are doing tremendous work to bring the life-saving techniques we take for granted in our health care system to third world countries that desperately need them
