Rep. Scribner: State prepared for Swine Flu threat

“Having participated in the informational forum and the conference call regarding the situation in Connecticut with Swine Flu, I can assure my constituents that their state government is engaged and prepared to ensure public health and contain any potential cases of Swine Flu,” said Rep. Rep. Scribner lends support to nursing program bill

State Rep. David Scribner (R-Brookfield) today cast a vote in favor of H.B. 6336, An Act Concerning Nurses Pursuing Advanced Degrees. The bill has the potential to help expand the nursing program at Western Connecticut State University. Rep. Scribner, a member of the legislature’s Public Health Committee, was a co-sponsor of the bill.

 


 

Budget plan would preserve local funding without raising taxes

State Rep. David Scribner (R-Brookfield, Bethel), an Assistant House Minority Leader, today joined with fellow House and Senate Republican leaders in unveiling a proposed 2009-2011 alternative state budget that would retain existing state funding for Brookfield and Bethel without raising taxes. The budget package presented by House and Senate Republicans would preserve vital state programs and services at 2007 levels, and greatly reduce government costs through cuts, agency mergers, retirements and salary and benefit concessions.

 


 

Key committee approves $2 million for Bethel Station upgrades

“I’m thrilled we were able to ensure that upgrades to the Bethel Train Station will remain a priority in Connecticut’s transportation plans moving forward,” said Rep. Scribner. “The increased use of the Danbury-Norwalk rail line has seen more residents from throughout our area boarding in Bethel and the station, particularly its parking area, is no longer adequate for the amount of patrons. Upgrades will both encourage use of mass transit and can help enhance local economic development.”

 


 

House approves legislation permitting flags on veterans’ graves

“Memorial Day is one of the two days each year where a tremendous focus is placed on the sacrifices Veterans have made to protect our freedoms and way of life,” said Rep. Scribner. “There should be no restrictions placed on recognizing their service with flags on their graves at that time.”

Against Largest Tax Increase in State History

April 3rd, 2009

On Thursday, April 2, State Rep. David Scribner (R-Brookfield, Bethel) voted against a tax package to enact $3.3 billion in new property, income, business and sales taxes. The Legislature’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee approved a package that would drive more residents from Connecticut and worsen the state’s recession, said Rep. Scribner.

On Saturday, March 28, Rep. Scribner participated in Children’s Day at Danbury Hospital. More than 3,500 area residents attended the event. Rep. Scribner was joined by his daughters Victoria, age 12, and Elizabeth, age 8, as well as fellow members of the Legislature’s Public Health Committee, Reps. Giegler, Carson, Lyddy and Congressman Chris Murphy.

 


 

Scribner meets with Murphy to discuss transportation issues

Residents Voice Opinions On Tolls

On Thursday, March 26, more than 30 area residents attended an informational forum on highway tolls hosted by State Representative David Scribner, R-107, and State Senator Toni Boucher, R-26. Rep. Scribner and Sen. Boucher, who serve as Ranking Members of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee, were joined by State Rep. Tony Guerrera, D-29, who serves as House Chairman of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee and other state elected and appointed officials.

On Wednesday, March 25, Rep. Scribner attended a retirement dinner for Brookfield Sargeant Det. Jeffrey Sullinger. Rep. Scribner presented a proclamation from Governor M. Jodi Rell and a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly during the event.

 


 

REP. SCRIBNER TO Co-HOST DANBURY FORUM ON HIGHWAY TOLLS

“Although the constituents of my district and I are a very hard sell on the issue of re-establishing tolls in Connecticut, it is important for the public to learn of the various proposals being considered and to provide their input during this period of analysis and deliberation,” said Sen. Boucher. “We are a small and dense state. Many of our residents work and travel between New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island and could be negatively impacted by tolls. Any new costs that are added to working and living in Connecticut should very carefully considered before any decision is made on this controversial proposal.”

 


 

Supports Deficit Reduction Package

On Wednesday, February 25, State Rep. David Scribner (R-Brookfield, Bethel) voted in favor of legislation to eliminate $1.2 billion of the state’s $1.35 billion deficit. Rep. Scribner, who serves as a member of the Legislature’s tax-writing Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, said the package retains state funding for the towns of Brookfield and Bethel for the current fiscal year.

 


 

Governor's Budget Proposal An Excellent Start

Governor M. Jodi Rell’s budget proposal sets an excellent tone for the Legislature to begin crafting a 2009-2001 state budget. The proposal Gov. Rell unveiled on Wednesday, February 4 will retain existing school funding for Brookfield and Bethel and does not increase taxes.

 


 

Deficit Package Fails Taxpayers

January 15, 2009

Scribner voted to reduce the state’s mounting deficit by $185 million, $54 million more than Democrat party leaders who added an additional $274,000 in hidden spending that will only worsen the state’s fiscal crisis. The package approved reduces the projected $800 million deficit by $133 million.

Much Work Remains To Address Deficit

Scribner today said much work remains to address the projected $300 million state deficit. The General Assembly met in a Special Session on Monday, November 24 to approve legislation to reduce the deficit by approximately $71 million.
