Representative Scribner Receives Committee Assignments

State Rep. David Scribner (R-Brookfield, Bethel) has received committee assignments as he begins his seventh term from House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, Jr. (R-Norwalk) for the 2009-2010 legislative sessions. As an Assistant Minority Leader, he will continue to help formulate Caucus positions and policy.

Rep. Scribner will also continue to serve as Ranking Member (House Republican leader) of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee, which has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Transportation, including highways and bridges, navigation, aeronautics, mass transit and railroads; and to the State Traffic Commission and the Department of Motor Vehicles. He will also serve Ranking member of the Transportation Bonding Subcommittee and as ex-officio member of the State Bond Commission.

In addition, Rep. Scribner will serve as a member of the Legislature’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, which has cognizance over all matters relating to taxation, finance, revenue, capital bonding and fees. The committee also has cognizance over employer contributions for unemployment compensation and all matters relating to the Department of Revenue Services and the revenue aspects of the Division of Special Revenue.

Finally, Rep. Scribner will serve as a member of the Public Health Committee, which has cognizance of all programs and matters relating to the Department of Public Health; the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Mental Retardation; the Office of Health Care Access; and all other matters relating to health, including emergency medical services, all licensing boards within the Department of Public Health, nursing homes, pure food and drugs, and controlled substances, including the treatment of substance abuse. In addition, he will continue to serve at the appointment of Governor M. Jodi Rell, as the Chairman of the State Team to Prevent Underage Drinking, and as a member of the Connecticut Department of Public Health Preparedness Advisory Committee.

“David Scribner is viewed by his colleagues on both sides of the aisle as an effective, hardworking legislator," Rep. Cafero. "He’s a valued member of our leadership team and has served well as our point person on transportation issues, which affect many aspects of the quality of life in Connecticut."

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve the as both an assistant leader and a leader on the Transportation Committee,” said Rep. Scribner. “Also, one of the most serious issues the Legislature will face this year is the state deficit and I expect that serving on the tax-writing Finance Committee will be especially challenging.”
