The Connecticut State Budget

June 29, 2009

Last Thursday I was asked to vote on the majority party's latest budget; a massive document we were given less than 3 hours to review. The proposal does not stray far from the massive tax increases and vague spending cuts offered by the Democrats in March. I am proud to say I voted against the bill.

Budget and Republican No-Increase Budget

In this time of Economic Crisis, the Democrats have submitted a budget proposal that was filled with tax increases to the tune of $3.3 billion – the largest single increase in state history.

Instead of trying to tax the state out of this mess, Republicans have chosen to seize this opportunity to redefine state government.  By making state government more efficient and more transparent we have the opportunity to save a tremendous amount of money and therefore avoid burdensome tax increases which will only push families and jobs out of our great state.

 


 

SB 1098, Commission on Enhancing Agency Outcomes

Senator McLachlan voted down SB 1098, was appointed to the Commission on Enhancing Agency Outcomes.  Majority Democrats unveiled their proposal to trim $2.8 billion dollars in cuts from the FY10/11 budget. In this proposal, they claimed closing one campus from the Connecticut State University System would save $28 million dollars
